At the same time see a first edition of The Christmas Carol, written by Lewis Carol, in the Magna Carta vault.  It was given to Alfred Tennyson as a Christmas present in 1871

While you are in the castle (built by William the Conqueror in 1068.) Don’t miss a walk around the medieval walls, which are steeped in many stories of its past, from King Henry V111 and Catherine Howard who visited in 1541 or find graffiti written by the prisoners in the dungeon below Cobb Hall.

From the east wall of the castle, take in the magnificent views of Lincoln Cathedral.  If you think it is imposing now, from the 1311 to 1548 it was the tallest building in the world. The central tower had a spire on top of it! What happened to it? I’ll let you know next time!
